Luther's Coat of Arms
Be a Living Lutheran!

I have held many things in my hands and I have lost them all;
but whatever I have placed in God's hands, that I still possess.

                                             — Martin Luther

Martin Luther's Morning Prayer

My Heavenly Father, I thank You, through Jesus Christ,
Your beloved Son, that You kept me safe from
all evil and danger last night.
Save me, I pray, today as well, from every evil and sin,
so that all I do and the way that I live will please you.
I put myself in your care, body and soul and all that I have.
Let Your holy Angels be with me, so that the evil enemy
will not gain power over me.
Amen.

A note on the background music—

A Mighty Fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.

                       ----Martin Luther  1529

This song has been called  “the greatest hymn of the
greatest man of the greatest period of German history”
and the “Battle Hymn of the Reformation.”

This hymn was sung at the funeral of President Dwight Eisenhower at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, March 1969.
