WE REACH
OUT TO THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY
REDLANDS MIGRANT WORKERS
Volunteers are needed at the Child Development Centers for the migrant workers’
pre-school age children located in Fellsmere and in Wabasso. These Centers care
for and prepare these young children for public school.
Volunteers are needed to read to them, to teach
them English, and to help them work with crafts. There are four of these Centers
located in Fellsmere and Wabasso. Two Centers are in need of more volunteers.
One is in Fellsmere on Willow Street and one is in Wabasso known as the
“Children’s House” located at 7801 85th Street.
COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY
--
On 16th Avenue Downtown
We as a congregation collect food and donations for the needy the first Sunday
in each month and deliver them the next day to the Bank.
Donations, however, can be made throughout the
month and placed in the baskets located at the front door. Food items would
include packaged or canned items such as pasta, beans, rice, cereals, etc., and
all kinds of canned vegetables plus jellies. In addition to the food items, bars
of soap (large or small), toothpastes (brushes), and shampoos are also needed.
All of our donations are very gratefully
received by the Bank as their supplies have dwindled during the summer
months, and the need has increased due to these hard times because so many are
unemployed.
ALTAR FLOWERS
Many times the Altar flowers from Sunday services are not picked up by donors
and these flowers are then brought to assisted living homes or to the Hospice
House or the Alzheimer's "The Place" to share their beauty with the residences.
In August, the flowers were delivered to the Hospice House on 37th Ave. and to
the Isles of Vero assisted living home on 60th Street each with a card saying
"from the Altar of Living Lord Lutheran Church". These places look forward to
receiving the flowers as do their residents.
We have a need, though, of containers to put them in since they are removed from
our Altar vases. We need large plastic bottles or tin cans - 3 qt. size to
transport the flowers. If you have any this size, please save them and bring
them to church for the Sacristy. We gratefully appreciate it.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Their project for this year was to start building 27 houses for needy families
in our area living in condemnable houses. The first house to be built was to be
sponsored by and constructed by volunteers from 10 churches in Vero Beach of
which Living Lord played a very active part.
